Atlanta restaurants: Japanese restaurant and ramen chain Wagamama open at Star Metals in Atlanta


British company Wagamama opens at the corner of 11th Street and Howell Mill Road in the Star Metals complex. The Japanese restaurant chain’s Atlanta location will be first in Georgia and the South, and its seventh overall in the United States. No opening ETA for the Atlanta site has been given, but it will likely be next year.

Wagamama opened almost 30 years ago, bringing its concept of a communal style dining and open kitchen to London at a time when neither was in fashion. Despite having 200 locations worldwide, the United States remained a relatively untapped market for the chain, with just three locations each in Boston and New York.

Sporting its open kitchen and communal seating and patio flanking the Howell Mill, Wagamama is best known for its ramen, like grilled duck and shirodashi pork. The menu also features a mix of other dishes incorporating Japanese, Chinese, and Korean ingredients, including bowls of donburi rice, curries, and teppanyaki, as well as wine, sake, and a selection of Asian beers.

Wagamama joins Prevail Roasters Alabama Coffee and Roaster at Star Metals. The cafe is located on the ground floor of the lobby of the resort residence. The SMR Tap Beer and Wine Bar could open this winter at Star Metals, with the Darts Bar and Fight Club Restaurant opening next year. When construction is complete, the Star Metals property will include offices, retail and dining areas, over 400 apartments with amenities such as a rooftop swimming pool and dog park, as well as a boutique hotel. with 176 rooms.

Star Metals is one of three large mixed-use projects comprising residences, restaurants and retail emerging along a stretch of Howell Mill Road from 14th to 8th Street.

Across from the Westside Provisions District, the $ 450 million Interlock complex on the corner of Howell Mill and 14th Street features apartments and a newly opened boutique hotel, the Bellyard, as well as a Georgia Technology incubator space. Ventures and a WeWork co-working company location. The locations of the Boulangerie and Café Saint-Germain, the Mini Golf and Restaurant Puttshack, the Velvet Taco and the Cocktail Bar and Drawbar Lounge at the Bellyard Hotel have already opened there. The Holiday Bar outdoor bar, Pour Taproom self-serve beer and cider bar, Miami’s Leave of Absence pool, resort-style bar and restaurant, and a second location of Cathy’s Gourmet Ice Cream Sandwiches are all slated to open at Interlock this fall.

Just south of Star Metals at the corner of 10th Street and Howell Mill, a Snooze an AM Eatery location will soon be opening at the Osprey Complex.
